Beach Colony is a coastal community in Del Mar, California. You will find some of the city’s most expensive property here.
Beach Colony is comprised of single family homes and condos with some of the ocean front neighborhoods such as Sandy Lane listing estates at over 20 million dollars. There are a variety of floor plans and amenities for the larger homes. Many of the condos face the ocean or overlook the community swimming pool. These units offer studios as well as one and two bedroom homes. Residents have access to steps that go down to the beach, an outdoor pavilion, gas barbecues, and covered parking.
This community is served by the Del Mar Union School District and the San Dieguito Union High School District. Students may attend highly ranked Del Mar Hills Elementary, Earl Warren Middle School, and Torrey Pines High School. Some families choose private schooling from facilities such as the Winston School of San Diego, St. James Academy, and Del Mar Montessori. There are several colleges within minutes such as MiraCosta College.
Beach Colony is located near the Solana Beach limits at the north end of the city and just minutes from Interstate 5. Del Mar’s downtown village is just south and features many shops and boutiques. You will find a variety of restaurants like Pacifica Breeze Cafe, Bully’s Del Mar, and Seaside Yogurt.
To the north across the San Dieguito River is the Del Mar Racetrack and Fairgrounds. The racetrack was built in 1937 by the Thoroughbred Club and its founding members included Paramount Studios, Pat O’Brian, and Bing Crosby. The fairground features 270 acres and is where the San Diego County Fair is held each year.
Del Mar means “by the sea” or “of the sea” in Spanish. In 1885 Colonel Jacob Taylor bought 338 acres to build a resort for rich and famous residents.
